Me and a friend of mine (students) rented a house in bucuresti for 4 months just to live among this tiny type of roach which seems it has infestated the house. Roaches being considered a health hazard the landlord is accountable for a disinfestation right? The landlord as very old and doesn’t speak english, we are in contact with her daughter who is not responding us on whatsapp, could the estate agency work as a communication channel if they simply stop replying to us? what exactly is the role of the agency?
For the moment we are taking pictures and videos of the tiny creatures, (we can see and kill easily at least 4 every night) in order to show the footage to a health inspector or something like that.
Any suggestions?
Thank you in advance

edit: one of the fucker crawled just when I was replying to one of you this is relatively small in comparison to others I round

  1. What kind of roaches, brown-black that moves fast?

Usually they are inactive during the winter, so in your case, you have a huge infestation if you see them during this time and as you say 4 every night.

Definitely a job for the agency / landlord.

Meanwhile, you can go an buy some poison called “Regent” or similar, spray it and they will die. But they might come back after a while if they have places where they can enter, if the building is infested.

  2. If the landlord refuses to take care of the bugs, you have no legal recourse really. Agencies don’t do anything other than connecting tenants and landlords faster.

Health inspector? You are living in a fantasy land.

  3. Move out, if possible. If they’re those black-brown ones that moves fast as someone said above me they’re pretty hard to get rid of and they will comeback if the apartment isn’t sealed properly.

  4. > what exactly is the role of the agency?

To take your money. They probably won’t do anything at all, unless there’s a chance of milking you again. They are worse than the roaches infesting you.

  5. Real estate agents are, in essence, lying leeches that should be impaled. They can’t and won’t do shit to help you out, except search for another place for you to relocate (for a fee, of course…). The only solution that I can think of would be small court claims and you should ask a lawyer.

Since it’s a block of flats, you really need to disinsect the whole building (especially the basement). But, as some sort of solution, a gel insecticide would be ideal because it spreads by contact between bugs and infects the whole colony once they return to their nest (as well through their cannibalistic nature).

Some have recommended Regent, but that has been banned in the EU since 2013 as it had excessive amounts of [Fipronil](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fipronil) (highly dangerous for birds, bees and fish). You can try [Max Force](https://www.pce.ro/insecticide/bayer-insecticid-max-force-ic-gel-5-g-cutie.html) or [Advion](https://www.pce.ro/insecticide/syngenta-insecticid-advion-gandaci-gel-30g.html) if you have pets. If you use them, don’t remove dead bugs for a few days, to let the other bugs cannibalize each other and increase chances that the nest gets infected and the fuckers eventually get “genocided”. This will take about a week or two and if after that they are still present, move. Use [imobiliare.ro](https://www.imobiliare.ro/) or [homezz.ro](https://homezz.ro/) and avoid those fucking roaches that are realtor agency.

  6. You need a silicone gel and foam and you try to seal all the pipes the best you can. The landlord can’t do shit since the entire building is infested and you’d need the homeowners association to pay for the fumigations. Most people won’t pay up, so unless the owner has something like 20k euros on him, he can’t do anything. Silicone gel and foam around the entrance of the pipes into the apartment, then block the drainage on the floor of the bathroom if you have one. (foam works)
If you are connected to the municipal water company, you need fast set plaster to seal the heating pipes on the ceiling and on the floor.
If you have parquet, and the roaches are underneath it, befriend them. They won.

I would advise talking to a plumber. It’s something like 100 euros. Ask the owner to drop 100 from the rent that month. It’s cheaper than paying a real estate agent again. I’d come and do it myself for 2 bottles of wine, but I’m terribly far away 🤣

  7. > Any suggestions?

Move out. Or if you really like the place you do it yourself since getting rid of the bugs takes a few weeks and no person should live like that.

Sadly the letting agencies are usually just huge roaches in disguise themselves.

  8. Get a bug extermination team. It will kill them and keep new ones away for a few / several months. Get some traps and bug spray.

  9. Bayer Maxforce IC (or other brands based on the same active ingredient) should do the trick, but the most important thing is to figure out how they get in and seal the access points.

  10. Move!NOW!Those fuckers are a total pain.I used to live in an apartment just like yours and I am a local. Those one started to show up shy but when they invaded they were everywhere.Bathroom, bedroom, even in the oven..I used every single poison to kill them.I almost killed myself by doing so because I combined them in a desperate attempt to kill them and I started to suffocate (luckly the apartment was small so I reached for the front door easily).I remember I used some kind of gel that worked for like 5 months (MaxxForce is it’s name) but since the entire building was infested the miracle lasted too short.I moved eventually when they started to show again
    So no.You can’t do nothing.Move.
