The town hall only has a small entrance in the middle. It’s nothing grand at all, not what you would expect with a building as impressive as this. This is because in the original plans of it, on the corner of Naamsestraat and Grote Markt, the corner of the cityhall would get a large belfry tower, including a grand entrance doorway. Unfortunately the tower was cancelled, and so we just have some small doors to enter our city hall.
So weird I passed that almost daily for years, and never thought anything special of it. It always felt weird to see tourists marvel at something I barely registered on my way to the Ambiorix or colf or Bierkelder.
I admit I marveled at it the first few times I saw it though
