For all the reservations that people have against the new Syrian government, you can’t deny that this looks nothing like the US withdrawal from Afghanistan
When US withdrew from Afghanistan and the puppet goverment fell , Afghans were desperately holding on the last planes leaving Kabul
When Russia withdrew from Syria, we don’t see pictures of Syrians trying to desperately come to Russia, not even in Russian media
I’m not praising the HTS, the thing is that most Western people still don’t realize how evil Assad was. It’s not that people who return think the HTS is wonderful, they just know that apart from Isis literally no one can be worse
He was not like the Shah of Iran, he was not like the last president of Afghanistan.
For all the things the Shah did, he didn’t use ballistic missiles and barrel bombs on his own cities
Assad likely killed 1 million people all throughout his rule, literally no Middle Eastern dictator can compare to him
The more time passes, the more people will realize that the 3 biggest refugee crisis in the past decade were all caused by Russia and its proxies
– the Ukrainian refugee crisis
-the Syrian refugee crisis(Assad)
– the Venezuelan refugee crisis(Maduro)
All together, Russia and his proxies have created at least 30 million refugees from this countries alone
Because just like Assad, Maduro wouldn’t last without Russian and Wagner support, there were literall Wagner militias during this summer to suppress the protests there
And do you know what Assad said? He said, “And Iran. Iran so far away. Just to get away.”
Is it just me or was that really quick? 200,000 in, what? A month?
That’s about one-thirtieth of the Syrian refugees, right? They have a lot more to go.
thats good i wish we can move back to our country but with how the situation is there it sucks
I really wish the best for them, that they connect to the west, i don’t know, they’re still terrorist, but if they can change how they control, build their country they can get some kinda of redemption arc, and this is good for the people, if they make business with the west, egypt, turkey and others, their economy will grow, ,people will have jobs, more international companies can open there generating more jobs, people will have something to eat, however, I HOPE this is not a long-term plan where their plan is to strengthen themselves for long decades like Iran and become a power that finances terrorism. And I want to add a point about how many of them hate the West, and how they prefer to live in misery and hate than to have agreements with the West. Yes, it is bad to be dependent on the dollar, or even submissive in some situations, but at least your country is either growing or stable and not in poverty, sanctions, war.
Wait, so the refugees have to return to their home country when the war or whatever is resolved? Is that a part of rule or policy? I have no idea on this topic so can someone explain like I am 5 years.
How safe is it there?
My friends wife has her parents there still. She wants to go see them. He’s very worried.
What proportion are coming from Turkey as opposed to European countries?
Now is a good time to get back and reclaim your country. Those that wait to return will be at the back of the line. Good on those that want to return to be a part of rebuilding the country.
So the best way to stop people fleeing war ravaged countries is to stop the war?
Well.
> Turkish authorities, who are hoping to see many of those refugees return to ease growing anti-Syrian sentiment among the population, are allowing one member of each refugee family to make three round trips until July 1, 2025, to prepare for their resettlement.
That sounds reasonable and pragmatic.
