Google AI

  1. Doubt he’s a medieval studies professor, that’s an interdisciplinary field that doesn’t really get going to the mid century, more likely a literature professor.

  2. I’m not so sure Jones Sr is Scottish at all, I’ve heard that exact accent before, and I’m pretty sure that guy was a Spaniard.

  3. As a Scot living in the USA, I have found to my surprise that even really clever, well-educated Americans usually think that Scottish people aren’t British. I work in academia and regularly have Americans with PhDs ask me things like “do Scottish people get on with British people?” Or “can you do a British accent?” And I have to inform them that Scottish people are British.

I imagine this is probably true, then, for most people outside of Europe. And since AI is based on human beings writing on the internet, it’s no surprise to me that AI might make the same mistake.

  4. And generating that answer will have required an insane amount of electricity and cooling water.

  5. Labour want to use AI in government, AI says Scotland isn’t British, Skynet’s given us independence

  6. TBF many Scottish folks will identify as Scottish before saying they are British, although they are both. It might be more of an age thing that is dying out idk, but certainly true of the Scottish folk I know. The Welsh can be the same but I don’t know too many Welsh to ask.

Although this AI thing is weird, it should have said yes he was British, obviously. I’m just adding that tit bit that it is perhaps saying no because of learning algorithms based on this slight divide.
