“Zeg dan toch sorry”: politieke verantwoordelijkheid is helaas een concept uit het verleden geworden

  1. I’m a bit out of the loop regarding this issue, is there a reason he should quit?

    As far as i understood: there was an issue where someone who was prohibited from caring for children could still be the owner/manager of a childcare.

    That sounds like a legal issue that probably existed for a long time, that just got exposed now, and that then means that whomever happens to be the minister at that time has to quit rather than to solve the actual issue?

    Or is it a change that he made that caused this issue? Then i get it.

  2. Wordt grof betaald omwille van de “grote verantwoordelijkheid”, neemt die verantwoordelijkheid nooit op.

  3. Never understood how quiting solves anything. For me it seems the easy way out. Why are people so eager to call for it?

    Quiting just means it will take longer before any action can be taken.

  4. The problem with admitting guilt and accepting consequences, is that it would undermine an M.O. that is applied in almost every branch of government these days: budget cuts.

    Regardless of a politician’s supposed “color”, they are all big fans of privatization and therefore, to some extent, advocates for neoliberalism.

    It’s a pattern;

    1. Claim a government-provided service or agency is costing the tax payer too much money. ( In this case; (health)care )
    2. Play the savior by announcing “reform” that essentially boils down to decimating said service or agency. 3. Enact that reform without compromise and ignore all prior warnings against it. ([https://alin-vzw.be/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/hier.pdf](https://alin-vzw.be/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/hier.pdf) )
    4. Keep reporting on dwindling results the, now decimated, agencies & services generate as an indication of the necessity of said reform. ( [https://www.voka.be/nieuws/niet-besparingen-wel-tekort-aan-zorgpersoneel-wordt-een-pletwals](https://www.voka.be/nieuws/niet-besparingen-wel-tekort-aan-zorgpersoneel-wordt-een-pletwals) )
    5. Offer a “solution” to this previously non-existent problem by facilitating privately owned, unregulated alternatives to “activate” unqualified, unemployed people in a sector they have no business being in. ( “Labor shortage”, right? )
    6. Turn a blind eye to unacceptable labor practices , unmet training/qualification requirements, dwindling quality of service and deny any negative consequences accredited to the stringent budgets cuts.
    7. Stuff your pockets and hope shit doesn’t hit the fan.
