Does anyone know why they were protesting given the ceasefire and hostage release terms have now been agreed?
Not sure what the Met’s game is here. I’m sure they’re under huge pressure from above but they put out a statement claiming protestors “forced” their way through when there’s videos of them walking through while police officers nod them past. Claiming that’s “forcing” is tantamount to entrapment if they want to go down that route and it’s all just a bit ridiculous.
The dumbest thing about the public order act is it allows them to make a bunch of arrests for (what could be) totally spurious reasons, and then people will see the headline “X protestors arrested” and not stop to think why that might be.
It’s kind of scary how much people internalise and repeat talking points, they really just lack critical thinking. For example I’ve seen so many (including some politicians) repeating the lie that the march was intended to pass by a synagogue. There was never a synagogue on the submitted march route, and police approved it just fine until for some reason they changed their mind at the last minute.
It’s also incredibly offensive to the thousands of Jewish people taking part to imply that a demonstration for peace and to honour those who have lost their lives is inherently antisemitic. The antisemitism directed towards those like Zack Polanski from Zionists online is absolutely abhorrent, with people calling him a “fake Jew” and a “kapo” but of course Zionist orgs don’t care about antisemitism when it’s directed towards anti-Zionist Jews.
Edit: [For another example, here’s a clip of the police asking demonstrators to “make their way through”…](https://x.com/pscupdates/status/1881015173277966519?s=46)
Insane. Apparently to walk down Whitehall to lay some flowers on Trafalgar Square is now potentially a crime.
It seems the police are seriously claiming that they were overpowered by these gents in their mid-70s, who “forced [their] way through the police line”.
We can all see it’s nonsense from the videos. But it’s the brazen stupidity of the police claim that gets me. They don’t even seem to care that their narrative makes them look weak and incapable.
Makes sense, Corbyn and McDonnell are a couple of swole proles who can easily overpower the police.
Amazing sophistry on display here.
[The Met gave PSC conditions for their protest/assembly.](https://news.met.police.uk/news/met-announces-further-conditions-for-palestine-solidarity-campaign-protest-492674)
[PSC broke them after a week of telling their followers to ignore the Met advertising the conditions](https://x.com/PSCupdates/status/1879613789601157570?t=y_ZtDt1LRJduHjljZYfmKg&s=19), and got arrested for their trouble.
C’est la vie.
“My friends at Hamas said everything was above board”
I do have to laugh at the whole “the Beeb are pro-Israeli” spiel though; They brazenly ran with the “IDF strike kills hundreds” line after what happened at the Al-Ahli hospital, despite having no verification of damage, casualties, or whether it was actually a Palestinian rocket that caused it, and have been quietly deleting articles ever since. Apparently, not deifying Hamas qualifies as bias nowadays.
Why was there a rally? They got the ceasefire, what is it now?
Downvotes aren’t explanations. You got your ceasefire, stop complaining.
A stupid legal system and an utter waste of resources. We need to make peaceful protest lawful again.
