2. Second homes ought to be charged double council tax, 3rd homes triple etc etc all the way to the top of the stack.

4. Personally I think holiday homes or houses that are short term lets only (Airbnb and such) should be taxed at higher rates, however houses that are rented to tenants as homes shouldn’t be taxed at higher rates.

7. People even being able to own second homes when the majority can;t afford a first home.

8. France has a far higher number of second homes and homeowners, yet far more affordable housing. Looks like it’s more a problem of supply than tax policy…..

9. I just think owning more than one home should be outlawed whilst there’s people who can’t afford one or are homeless. 

10. Why do it in a convoluted way? In Denmark, most¹ homes are required to have someone with permanent residence. If that isn’t the case, the local council will eventually be able to forcibly rent out the property to whoever they see fit. The property tax rate is the same across all properties.

    1. By discretion of the local council. Dedicated vacation homes are exempt, but they cannot be used for permanent residence in the first place.-
