In the last few months there was some construction in the road where I live. I assume installing fiber internet, given the letters from Valokuitunen I received before that. Very recently I received a letter directing me to valoo.fi, where I found this page:

The offer seemed very suspicious at first, asking for hundreds of euros up-front for an internet plan which includes an installation apparently normally costing thousands. But only if paid for right away. After searching the internet, though, it looks like Valoo is probably the company responsible for the recent construction, and maybe the offer is legitimate?
Still, it seems like a good idea to make sure before agreeing to pay. Is anyone here familiar with Valoo? Is the offer trustworthy?

It’s legitimate.
Costing thousands normally, because if you want it done invidually. They have to rent staff & machines for digging just for single household.
I don’t think there are any upfront fees here.
Damn my plex server would love that 2000 Mb upload
They do it now for free because they are mass building in your area. They will physically dig fiber cable to your house and install it inside.
Its legit.
Valoo and Valokuitunen are real. You don’t pay it before it is actually installed.
I have been following one those those on-going projects near Porvoo. After ordering, it took about 2 years that they started digging. Last summer they installed fiber-modem unit to wall and dig the protective tube from cabinet to outside wall as last thing before winter. Now they are still waiting for final fiber installation (blowing fiber inside tubing and welding the ends). Perhaps next summer the project is ready.
In another project near capital area it took around 5-6 years. First 2-3 years waiting (even name changed from avoin kuitu to valokuitunen during this). Then they canceled orders for that part of the road (not enough orders per section of road). Then after about a year it was possible to order it again for about 5 times higher price. Then after about a year they installed the fiber-modem and protective tubing at house yard. Then it took around a year more for rest of the construction to next to road etc. until it was ready.
Those were both valokuitunen. Very very slow and extremely poor communication. The work itself (done by subcontractors) was perfect but it was always a total surprise what happens next and how long it takes so the coordination by valokuitunen was as poor project management as possible.
At the latter area also Valoo installed their own fiber to the same area. That was also quite interesting to follow as the subcontractors didn’t speak any understandable language when we tried to ask about schedule (they cut access to houses from road sometimes as total surprise). They did the digging two times (!) as apparently they forgot/messed something first time. It was at the time always a surprise if access to house was blocked by digging work or not. Also both valokuitunen and valoo didn’t really clean the area but left all kinds of pieces of pipe, rocks etc. there along the road. Valoo took away some stuff valokuitunen left there years earlier. Now valoo left their own trash there but significantly less.
It is legit, and a good idea IMO, this stuff is very cheap nowadays and the speed is top notch.
The doubling of the price after 12 months is a bit frustrating tbh…
