  1. Cool, now China can whoop our ass in EV market share across the globe over the next 20 years because Diaper Don watches too much Fox News.

  2. So the demand for gas goes up, resulting in lower costs right? Eggs will cost less to transport too!

  3. Going over to red note we see that the american car companies have taken our tax dollars and given us nothing back. These chinese cars are nice and afordable. Again in america nothing is nice for the working class. We just help give people yacht money

  4. This is dumb. We need to view this through the lens of national security. Giving china the easy path to being #1 in any important area of tech is really dumb. It’s not just EVs, it’s all the R&D that comes along with giving financial incentives to companies to produce EVs (battery tech, charging tech, solar tech, etc). It’s the same thing as computer chips, not being able to be competitive is a mistake.

ICE cars will always have a place, but China is going to aggressively gobble up market share with cars that american companies (and european companies) won’t be able to touch when comparing price/ability.

  5. America is seriously just going to ping pong back and forth between these issues every 4 years for the foreseeable future aren’t we….

  6. Americans and the media use the terms “emergency”, “unprecedented”, “at a crossroads”, and “crisis” way too much and in a superlative manner these days. An “energy emergency” is just an idiom for oil companies to have their way and do without alternative forms of energy. It’s not an emergency where lives are in danger.

  7. Trump is finishing what Biden started with his ban of good electric cars because American cars suck so badly. Nothing is changing. Capitalism is destroying the planet for the good of the billionaires just like always.

  8. Imagine complaining about gas prices and then pushing electric vehicles off the market.

Maga is as dumb as the day is long.

  9. The hard mandates, like stopping sales of new ICE vehicles by a set year, are pretty much all at the state level. Unless the Trump administration plans to fight against states’ ability to enact these policies, ending a federal “EV mandate” that doesn’t actually exist is strictly performative. It makes a difference at the margin, as there are expectations around policy and investment that are based on the white house policy statements, but California’s phase out of ICE passenger vehicle sales by 2035 is far more important.

The “Drill baby drill” component of the emergency declaration is also of dubious importance. US oil and gas production. The US is already the world’s largest producer of crude. It’s unlikely that US production will increase in a meaningful way simply because new reserves are made available in Alaska. The long lead time and high cost to develop those resources, coupled with the desire to maintain price stability and the uncertainty around national energy policy on a scale of 10+ years, mean that US producers are likely to prefer status quo for the forseeable future.

  10. We’re in such a national energy emergency that we have to block production of more renewable energy 🙄

  11. National Emergency in Brazil:

Porto Alegre is underwater, the air in Campo Grande is unbreathable, Brasília is under attack by the three branches of government, the PCC burned buses in Porto Velho and declared war on local authorities, a cyclone is approaching the coast of Santa Catarina

    National Emergency in the USA:

BYD Dolphin Mini is coming, protect our oil burners!

  12. Trump’s biggest problem is the need for urgency in order to maintain power so he governs only by crafting a narratives of crisis otherwise it significantly loses his appeal

  13. Get ready for daily national emergencies with America’s Drama Queen amd Chief

  14. From “The Dictator’s Checklist”:

    1. Reduce factors limiting political power, **declare a state of emergency if necessary**

THE **FIRST task of one who wants to become a dictator is to reduce the factors that limit political power** in

order to shape society in the desired direction…..The tripartite division of powers means that executive, legislative and judicial powers are vested in different bodies. **This can be used to strip away**

**the limits of the president’s term of office (as was done in Belarus in 2004) or even all the limits to power.**

However, changing the constitution is often difficult, requiring super-majorities. It succeeds mainly in the

most established dictatorships, such as Turkey (2017) and Russia (2020).

  15. I don’t think most people have a problem with EV’s. People have a problem being forced to buy them because for many they are not practical and still too expensive. It doesn’t mean American Automakers can’t invest and build electric cars. If there’s a market they’ll make it happen.

  16. Electric vehicles replacing gas in inevitable regardless, things like this just prolong it.

  17. How does this not hurt any competitor to Tesla? This is such an easy display of corruption and greed. Damn when do we stop them?

  18. Meanwhile Japan just invented news more efficient and sustainable ways to create hydrogen fuel cells and power cars safely and economically with them…

    🤦🤦🤦

  19. that’s a weird way to phrase “Ending Elon’s competition”
