Brian Leishman MP: Austerity is not the politics of grassroots Labour party members and it should never be the politics of a Labour government. There’s nothing brave about cutting public spending. Real bravery would be taxing the multimillionaires/billionaires and changing society for the better.

  1. Brian Leishman is the Scottish Labour MP for Alloa & Grangemouth.

  2. Sounds like a proper labour not new-tory lite for a change wish the rest of the party would grow a pair and do it (not going to happen is it)

  3. He’s not wrong. The Tories are the party of terrible ideas:
    1. Trickle down economics
    2. Privatization.
    3. Austerity
    4. Brexit.
All of these have contributed significantly to the enshitification of the UK economy, the impoverishment of the working class, and the enrichment of the already wealthy.

There’s no way the rich will release money into the market since they’re too busy hoarding their wealth for themselves. The least that Labour could do is claw some of that back with taxes.

  4. We agree Mr Leishman, however, perhaps your time in Starmer’s New, New Red Tories may soon ” No be lang”. Possibly a trumped up charge of ‘Anti-Semitism’ or something you said when you were 14 will emerge as grounds to ‘de-select’ you?

  5. > Brian Leishman is one of the most left-wing MPs in 2024 Labour intake, perhaps THE most left-wing.

    > The handful of other left-wingers I identified have kept silent, but not Leishman.

    > **Someone in Scottish Labour HQ must have had a mighty rollocking for letting him slip through!**

  6. Ooft. Starver and his puppet Anus won’t like this.

  7. Keir Hardie the very first Labour MP said a similar thing 133 years ago when he stood on a ticket of graduated income tax, free schooling, pensions, the abolition of the House of Lords and for women’s right to vote.
