I was out yesterday on Sunday for a walk, and
directly at 9am, I started hearing this music being
played from the top of the church
It was a group of people on the balcony at the top of the church playing songs for about 10-15 minutes with wind instruments
I stayed and listened to the music, but I'm wondering if this is a scheduled thing here, maybe relating something to culture, or if this is just a random occurrence?
also apologies for no video, I can't upload one here and I tried linking the video but my post got removed for self promotion, so all I can do is a screenshot

It is certainly not a usual occurrence, it doesn’t happen everywhere and anytime. So the question is: Where did this happen?
Tuba players are notorious for this. They break into random building to play music from the windows. It’s kind of a weird quirk among the profession. Or a personality disorder. Probably comes from the fact that in when they play in more normal situations nobody notices them at all. Or maybe their mothers didn’t show them enough affection and that’s why they play tuba in the first place.
edit: /s in case it’s not obvious.
It’s not usual, no: it must be for some special occasion. There doesn’t seem to be anything in the liturgical calendar, so it must be specific to that church or that village. In the Catholic tradition, 19th January is dedicated to saints Agritius, Martha and Marius, and Pia; so if the church is named after one of those, it could be something to do with that.
I’m not really an expert here, but it looks to me as if that balcony was built specifically for this purpose, so it could be part of some sort of historical enactment — perhaps it’s the anniversary of the church’s consecration or something. Or maybe the bells simply aren’t working for some reason, so the local brass band stepped in to call the faithful to prayer.
Many congregations have a “trombone choir” (essentially a church-associated brass band). They mostly play inside the church building during mass, but [*Turmblasen*](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turmblasen) is still a thing in some places.
Google that term and/or “Posaunenchor” together with the location (the name of the church or congregation and/or the municipality, city district, neighborhood, etc.) to find out more.
My dad is in the brass ensemble of his church and they do this once a month on a Sunday.
Maybe there is a Musikverein in your Village?
I’d go and ask them. Or you could ask the Küster of the church.
