If your guest is washing up, you’re hosting wrong! Also, don’t touch my stuff. I’ll do it. 😂
please leave the dishwasher to me, it’s no hassle! Translation: you’ll do it wrong and I’ll have to take everything out and reload when you’ve gone
She left my Chicago town branded, light saber themed, novelty pizza cutter, complete with laser beam and sound effects, to soak in the sink during the party. The batteries were not happy by the time I realised. I saved up tokens to get that shit, life will never be the same.
If you know you are this way, then say something.
“Oh please don’t – I’ll hate the way you do everything.”
My dad’s staying with me just now and will not accept that I have a dishwasher, and that’s how the dishes get washed. I exclusively use my draining board by the sink for recycling that I’ve rinsed (not washed, rinsed) so it’s not something I ensure is clean on a daily basis. And he keeps washing dishes and putting them there, it’s driving me mad!
He’ll say “I’ll just wash this, there’s no point in putting this one glass in the dishwasher” ignoring the fact that there’s plenty more to go in so it’s not just one glass. Or he’ll wash pans as I’m putting the dinner out saying “I may as well just wash these now while you’re doing that”
I end up taking the things he’s washed off the dirty draining board and putting them in the dishwasher after he goes to bed, before they can make their way into the cupboards.
I guess I could clean the draining board daily or not put my recycling there to dry while he’s staying, but that would mean he wins and I’m as stubborn as he is!
I think that maybe 10-20% of people never learnt how to wash up properly (leave on soap suds, only cleaning the side that touches food and so on), and these are the ones who volunteer to do it on any occasion because they can see it takes everyone else 3x as long, then afterwards leaving the kitchen scattered with dirty clean dishes.
Never mind crimes that are actually damaging or dangerous like putting good knives that you are trying to keep nice in the dishwasher, or sharps in a washing up basin and so on.
