HOUSTON, Texas (KAUZ) – Texoma, alongside much of the Lone Star State, has been locked in a cold weather pattern. Amid bitterly low temperatures and wind chills, Reliant Energy shared tips to help conserve energy.
Keeping the thermostat around 68 degrees can help optimize energy usage, as can opening blinds when the sun is shining and closing them back at night.
Reliant also said closing heat escape routes like ventilation fans and chimney dampers (when fireplaces are not in use) can help retain heat.
There are also simple measures, like using space heaters when people are in an area of a house and setting ceiling fans to turn clockwise, which pushes warm air down from the ceiling into the room.
