  9. Last time he hit Canada with tariffs Canada hit back with tariffs but an effort was made to target red state industries disproportionately to make the actual supporters suffer the most.

  30. Canada’s ultimate weapon is export tariffs. Not so much what they buy from the US but what they sell to the US.

    Trump is unlikely to tariff energy and raise US gas prices by almost a dollar. So Canada imposing and collecting a 25% export tax on oil can be used to offset manufacturing job losses. In this case Americans are again paying the tax.

    2. 5 years later he says Mexico and Canada are ripping the US off

  41. We can not and do not produce enough Aluminum for internal consumption. Canada supplied close to half of our imported Aluminum.

    Aluminum is the second most used metal, only to iron.

    We import 99% of a key ingredient in making Aluminum because we simply don’t have any.

    I can’t wait to see the prices after this individual is done with our economy.

  43. The mention of tariffs in his inaugural speech was baffling. He talked about all the money America will rake in from China/Canada/Mexico after he slaps tariffs on them. Does he STILL not know what tariffs are?

    It keeps sounding like he thinks they’re laws you pass which require other countries to pay money to the US government, like he thinks he can “tax” China.

    He’s the president, he HAS to know tariffs are actually a tax on imports that Americans have to pay. Is he just framing the issue in an overly simplistic way?
