Vietnam aims to establish a green strategic partnership with Norway, according to Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Lê Thị Thu Hằng. She welcomed the discussions about signing a Letter of Intent focused on enhancing collaboration in green transition, circular economy, and climate change adaptation.

Hằng made this statement during her meeting with a delegation of Norwegian parliamentarians led by Aslaug Sem-Jacobsen, Vice Chair of the Norwegian Parliament’s Standing Committee on Family and Cultural Affairs. The delegation is on a three-day working visit to Vietnam, engaging in various meetings with local officials and institutions.

During the meeting, Hằng emphasized the significance of bilateral cooperation, particularly in the maritime economy. She encouraged the Norwegian parliamentarians to support Vietnam in lifting the European Commission’s “yellow card” warning against its seafood exports. This support would enhance Vietnam’s efforts to promote sustainable aquaculture.

Sem-Jacobsen affirmed Norway’s strong commitment to developing an effective partnership with Vietnam. She explained that the delegation’s visit aims to explore Vietnam’s foreign policy, advance negotiations on the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Vietnam and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), and foster economic cooperation in areas such as renewable energy, infrastructure, and green transition.

The two sides also discussed international and regional issues of mutual concern. They shared perspectives on challenges from global conflicts and strategic competitions among major powers. Hằng reiterated Vietnam’s consistent foreign policy, emphasizing independence, self-reliance, and the importance of multilateral relationships.

Both parties agreed on the need for enhanced coordination to address global challenges. They strongly supported the peaceful resolution of disputes in the East Sea, in alignment with international law and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
