Nicola Sturgeon apologises to people accused of witchcraft

  1. You lot that have commented in the negative are something else. It makes a statement to the world. There are countries where being albino is a death sentence. Where witch doctor nonsense is still carried on. We are making it clear that we made a mistake to behave that way in the past and that those that carry on today are wrong now.

There is a stone in Forfar where several witches were killed and it is marked with a simple marker that says “The Forfar Witches. Just People”. Should they have bothered? Not according to you. But to some people it’s a poignant reminder of our bad position we held.

Yes, it was 300 years ago but this took what, a day at most to organise? What about any other more recent wrong? Should we just say “well… you got over being molested as a kid didn’t you?” to Celtic Boys club victims?

Boo hoo they did a gesture. Probably took about an hour to knock it up. Nice thing to do, go and get some vitamin D.

  2. I am fully in agreement with the consensus mocking this.

Who gives a fuck about 4000 dead woman, tied to wooden poles and burned alive? Who gives a toss that about the verdicts, delivered by the same judicial system persisting to this day, that currently records that it was their fault for being guilty and that they deserved to die, liquidised fat boiling under their charred skin as they screamed out their last moments in a raging inferno? Who gives about a shit about a death rate at 500% that of the second bloodiest country?

While we’re at, let’s revoke Alan Turings pardon and all, and put the Saville statues back up. What an awful intolerable weakness for a government to ever come out and says they’re wrong? I, for one, would rather a government that just did what it liked and never made any apologies (slavery LOL) – 4000 charred corpses be damned.

  3. An apology for the many failings of Police Scotland to women since its creation would be more appropriate.

The Turing law was relevant as it pardoned some living men.

  4. I just walked through Glasgow city centre an hour ago and I can assure you that based on the sights I saw Scotland has far more pressing issues to tackle than some long dead witches getting an apology.

  5. Good to see Scotland taking the lead on historical witch apologies, something that the Westminster government would do well to follow.

  6. We got Covid. We got economic issues, we got fuel pruces through the roof, the cold war has restarted with largest war in Europe since WW2 currently being fought.

This can wait a year or two. We can deal with it when we got luxury of such things.
