Queen to permanently leave Buckingham Palace after recovering from covid

  1. > The Queen is reportedly set to make Windsor Castle her permanent residence, meaning that she will never return to Buckingham Palace or the capital.

Does it really mean that? It seems a bit final to me, but I suppose if anyone has the authority to never go back to a place then it’s the Queen.

  2. What about the tourists? Reddit taught me the only reason people come to the UK is because the queen physically resides in Buckingham palace..

  3. We really should open up Buckingham palace as a full on tourist money maker. It’s seen as their ‘home’ but really the royals never treated it as their home. It’s only the location that makes it noteworthy with it being in the heart of London.

  4. Is it really saying that? Tbh I thought Windsor already was her official residence. But isn’t that like saying she’ll never go to any of her other homes? I mean that might be true, she’s 95 after all.

  5. Put in a few theme park actors. Carry on with the guards in bear hats nonsense and give the whole thing to the national trust for the tourists.
There is twenty museum and art galleries worth of stuff in there that should be open to the public.
Charles can do a drive by once in a while to assuage the traditionalists. He’ll never use it, reportedly he hates the place.

  6. she’s been spending less and less time there for years, this doesn’t seem like an abnormal move tbh. it’s still a working palace, she just won’t live there. at her age i’d fuck off to my country pile with my horses too

  7. >…she will never return to Buckingham Palace or the capital

Seems like a weird statement to make – is that just the website talking nonsense?

  8. Do you think she’s dead and they’re pushing off saying so they can have their celebrations planned for later this year?

  9. If old Queenie hired her gaff out for wedding venue hire she’d be rolling in it, and the taxpayer wouldn’t have to keep bailing her out.

  10. I think a lot of royalists will actually turn out to be elizabethans once Charles gets his mits on the family jewels

  11. I remember reading the royals actually hate Buckingham Palace as a residence. It’s too big, it’s cold and draughty. It takes forever to get anywhere inside it.

I don’t blame them for ditching the place. Makes more sense to turn it into a full on moneymaker via tourist income / turn it into a museum. They have Windsor Castle and their private residences that they actually like, so maybe it’s time to turn this one into something useful.
