Covid can shrink brain and damage its tissue, finds research | UK biobank study

  1. I suppose the next question is ‘Can that damage be reversed?’ Some rehabilitation is possible after a stroke, so you would expect people to recover to some extent after COVID. It will just take months to years and lots of practice. It’s just another problem that the NHS will be expected to deal with, yet will be given no extra funding or staff for.

  2. Why can’t viruses ever do good things like improve my brain instead? Always the doom and gloom with them

  3. Several things I would like to know here

How old were the people who suffered brain damage

Were they vaccinated – if so, then how many doses?

Did they have any stated health problems?

Where they already being treated for a separate illness at the same time?

  4. I had really bad brain fog on my main day of covid symptoms. Hope that’s not a sign of any brain tissue damaaebrbdjrj was CV X k jsrjkg

  5. This hurts eerily too much to home. Since I got Covid (Jan 2021), I don’t feel the same. Whilst physically I feel as though I’m getting slightly better, my mentality as a whole has taken a big hit back. What used to take me 5 minutes now takes me 15. I’ve even put off applying for jobs as I feel as though it would be a big step back taking such a huge mental load on. I can’t put my finger as to what it is, but what I can say for certain is that since I got Covid, I still don’t feel as the same as I once was.

  6. Concerning with how many children are unvaccinated and forced to go to schools. If this doesn’t heal or leaves permanent damage wonder what this could do to a generation

  7. After 2+ weeks of horrible covid symptoms (I have asthma so it was rough on my chest) I suddenly was in the hospital. I lost a good 24hrs. I apparently attacked a doctor, which is ridiculous, I am about as cooperative as they come. They referred to it as delirium and didn’t really even know what had happened, attributing it to post-viral/post-covid. So, yeah, it fucks with your brain.

I feel like I’m pretty much back to normal now, but I had a couple of months where I was really slow typing, forgot a word every sentence I spoke, etc. In fact I was a pretty avid Tetris 99 player at the time. I had a go and it genuinely felt like my brain was straining. It was a fucked up feeling so I had to take it slow.

edit: just in case any anti vaxxers decide to jump on this. this was in Nov 2020 so no vaccines had yet been rolled out. I was shielding but caught it cos there was an outbreak in the care home that my mum worked in. have had all of my vaccines since.

edit 2: Wanted to add something that scared the fuck out of me.
My mum told me that I just wasn’t responding when she asked me what was going on. I just said “I don’t know.” While she waited for an ambulance, eventually I stopped responding at all. It really was like my soul fucked off, because I remember nothing of this. She told me she didn’t think she’d get me back. Broke my fucking heart because she was also still recovering from covid, she had lost so much weight bc she had no appetite for like 2-3 weeks, yet she still had to deal with all of that. Horrible times.
To end on a light hearted note, the thing that tipped my mum off that I might be having problems was me leaving a cereal bowl in the kitchen, with a little water in it, and *every spoon we have* in it… I must have had some grandiose plans, or my soulless shell did, fuck knows what they were!
