Jude Webber refers to the fact that Ireland has yet to have a female taoiseach or prime minister (“‘Housewife of the Year’ challenges Ireland’s progressive self-image”, Outlook, January 21). It’s important to highlight that Ireland has had two female presidents: Mary Robinson (1990-1997) and Mary McAleese (1997-2011), both of whom played significant roles liberalising the country.
