  6. The “Roman salute” was created and used in neoclassical art of the 17th and 18th centuries. It isn’t Roman in any way. It was adapted from these images by Benito Mussolini for his ‘fascist’ (a word that his own movement coined) regime. A “Roman salute” is literally a fascist solute.
