Bookshops thrive as France moves to protect sellers from Amazon

  1. And then you get a new problem: digital books. Amazon can sell digital books that have a €0 delivery cost. This is clearly unfair to small bookstores, therefore digital books should have a minimum delivery fee of €7.

I like there being competition for Amazon, but competition that happens because government mandates it isn’t real competition. Amazon is going to outlast these does just because they also operate as a publisher for “amateur” (new) authors. And that’s something small book stores cannot compete with.

  2. French bookstore suck, are very expensive, and with crap selection of the same bunch of classics, novelists, shitty sociologists, and pedant philosopher. As such, they’re a cornerstone of the intellectual life in France and must be protected from foreign invaders who provide a better, cheaper, and more diverse offering.
