On January 21, 2025, the ceremonial presentation of the Michelin Guide for Austria took place in Hangar-7 in Salzburg. For the first time since 2009, a nationwide selection of restaurants from the renowned culinary guide will be published. Carinthia was particularly successful, with eight restaurants receiving a total of ten awards. In addition to four Michelin stars and five Green Stars for sustainability, one restaurant was awarded in the Bib Gourmand category.

The return of the Michelin Guide was made possible by the cooperation of Austria Tourism, the regional tourism organizations and the Chamber of Commerce. The event attracted chefs, industry representatives and international media. For Carinthia, this represents an enormous gain in prestige. State Minister for Tourism Sebastian Schuschnig emphasized the importance of the awards for the international visibility and competitiveness of the region’s top gastronomy.

Among the award-winning Carinthian restaurants are well-known names such as the “Gourmet Restaurant Hubert Wallner” in Maria Wörth, the “Genießerhotel Die Forelle” on the Weissensee and the “Restaurant Moritz” in Grafenstein. The “Reiterhof Stückler” in Wolfsberg also received a Bib Gourmand award for its value for money. The Michelin Guide ratings are made worldwide according to uniform criteria, including the quality of the products, the creativity of the dishes and the consistency of the service.

The ceremonial re-inclusion of Austria in the Michelin Guide sets new standards for domestic gastronomy. With a global reach that appeals to millions of gourmet travelers, the guide is an important multiplier for Austria’s culinary scene and opens up new opportunities for the regional tourism industry.
