  1. The Schengen area allows more than 470 million people to travel, work and live in EU countries without internal border checks.

It includes all EU countries(bar Ireland, & Cyprus) + Iceland, Norway, Switzerland and Liechtenstein.

  2. Time to address the Western Balkans situation and make Europe Great again!

  3. *Getting annoyed with your balderdash Ireland…*

  4. Now I can travel by car to Europe from Greece without having to stop at borders and I feel great

  5. Missed off Svalbard.

A part of Norway that is outside of Schengen meaning that if you take a plane from Svalbard to Tromsø (Norway to Norway), you still have to clear customs.
Svalbard is none of the 4 keys, and should be on the map.

  6. The fact that this exists is one of the greatest achievements of Europe, and probably my favourite example of international collaboration.

  7. I benefitted from the union myself, but on the grand picture, I do believe that it should have developed as it was initially designed – one huge trade union without customs and open trade borders.

This ”open border” thing, striving to be like USA or Russia… I’m not sure that it works well. The empires (US and RU) both exist on the premisse of the same language, as for the EU – even the shape of the power socket cannot be unified. And it already exists for how long now, 30 years.

Don’t get me wrong; universal truth is that there is strength in unity and I will, most likely, remain the unionist till the very end. But even now, after 30 years, EU (as such) leaves more to be desired then it provides.

  8. Isn’t this one of the most remarkable achievements humanity has ever created?

Given the history of this continent, this must surely be one of the greatest.

It should be celebrated every year. (“Dependence Day”…?!)

  9. Now do the same map but this time show us nations that have suspended Schengen:

    Bulgaria
    Germany
    Slovenia
    Italy
    Austria
    Netherlands
    Norway
    Denmark
    France
    Sweden

It looks a lot like a failed dream to me.

  10. Last year I drove to Romania, so weird to think that my passport was checked but now it is not the case anymore

  11. Just a question, why is Ireland not in Schengen area even though it’s in EU?

  12. Damn I love it when I can simply walk past the long queues at the customs office at the airport.

  13. Ireland: ‘Britain can you get out of the way please?’ 🤣

  14. It is very interesting that some EU countries Islands are in Schengen and some are not.

  15. I know why Ireland isn’t in Schengen. But why isn’t Cyprus?

  16. Fuck you Brexit, no wonder they call us little Britain now

  17. I like that Romania joined Schengen a week before Nosferatu came out

  18. I assume the vatican and monaco have agreements with italy and france, respectively, rather than the EU?
