
In 1900, the Swiss artist Ferdinand Hodler created three frescoes the armory hall of the Swiss National Museum in Zurich. Hodler ignored the wishes of his patrons and sparked a nationwide controversy with the composition of the picture for his work «The Retreat from Marignano».

Interesting piece. I love Hodler, especially the series he painted of his dying mistress.
Loved it. I didn’t know the story but always loved the painting. I have spent so much time watching it every time I visited the museum. Now I want to go there again and just sit; looking at this painting for a long time.
