  1. > French president told the sanctions would be put off as talks between officials continue.

    > France had threatened to take a series of measures against the UK unless more licences were granted by midnight on Monday.

UK caved quickly. Good to hear they are willing to talk again.

  2. >France had threatened to take a series of measures against the UK unless more licences were granted by midnight on Monday.

    >Representatives from the EU Commission, France, the UK and the Channel Islands began talks on Monday, seeking to diffuse the row.

    >French media quoted Mr Macron telling reporters at the COP26 climate summit in Glasgow these would now continue on Tuesday.

    >”It’s not while we’re negotiating that we’re going to impose sanctions,” he was quoted as saying.

    >”We’ll see where we are tomorrow [Tuesday] at the end of the day, to see if things have really changed,” he added.

    Macron knows his job.

  3. So basically he’s realised that he has embarassed himself and that his position basically makes it easier for Frost to pull the A16 switch. Which is why despite the incredible frustration with the UK, France hasn’t gotten much support.

The question is… wtf is the point of this? All to get votes from fishermen who have been catching fish illegally? If that is the case, then we can’t consider UK and France to be allies or close friends if some self serving politician is able to cause all of this.

  4. “Our figures show that we have between 60 to 70 French fishing vessels in our waters, we’re now going to have more than 140. We’ve been let down by our politicians who’ve just given into the French demands.” – Don Thompson, Jersey Fishermen’s Association ([link](https://www.itv.com/news/channel/2021-09-29/jersey-fishermen-say-new-licenses-for-french-a-death-warrant-for-the-industry))

The Jersey government have announced that it will issue 162 licences from Friday 29 October. 55 vessels will not have a licence beyond Friday – but the government says the ‘door remains open’ if fisherman can provide the relevant data ([link](https://www.itv.com/news/channel/2021-10-28/more-jersey-fishing-licences-granted-to-the-french-in-attempt-to-end-dispute))

With this ongoing talk, at least a dozen more will likely get the licenses. The threats seem to have served Macron well.
