  2. This is more or less what people have been expecting if Trump were to become president. The three truths that dictated this outcome: Trump is exceptionally transactional, Europe is wealthy compared to Russia but lacks magazine depth, the U.S. has the magazine depth but lacks the political will to use it (largely for reasons related to domestic politics).

    Plus it give Europe time to play catch up.

  8. well its that or start drafting your 18 years olds for military service because you will need them we should ivest i local eu production but since we cant make stuff for certain systems there is little choice

  9. Let’s finance European weapons for Ukraine AND Europe. We can not be dependent on an untrustworthy ally.

    Not all things are to like about Mark Rutte but he is an excellent diplomat. Probably and hopefully one of Ukraine biggest assets.

  12. I feel like if Europe is financing them we should at least call them Europes weapons, you don’t get to charge for them *and* claim you are the hero

  14. Exactly what I figured would end up happening if Trump stops giving weapons away for free. He would have no qualms about selling just about anything.

  16. Why the shift?
    USA has about 12,6% of world GDP. The rest of NATO has about 17,5%. Why has it been almost 3 years of USA providing the most weapons BY FAR, to support a country which is not even a US ally. For the sake of the security of Europe. Why didn’t Europe step up 3 years ago, the week after Russia invaded. Why not 2 and a half years ago, when it was evident to all that the war would drag on. How about 2 years ago? or 1 year ago?

    Russia instigates the largest war in Europe since WW2. Europe sleeps.

    The US elects Donald Trump as President. Europe is WIDE AWAKE! WEAPONS NOW!

    I think the European leaders were secretly cheering for Trump. What a perfect scapegoat for their own incompetence. Surely the democrats will win, and Europe can sleep for another 4 years. Its not like Trump won in 2016 or anything, the direction the US voters were moving in was abundantly clear. Europe had 3 years to prepare for a shift in the US presidency. At this point, the arsenals of Europe should have been at full capacity. And the US pulling out, if the US pulls out, should merely be a bump in the road.

    But here we are. While Putin murders children in hospitals. Germany is holding back weapons in fear that it might escalate the war.
