Inauguration Day: Trump vows US ‘taking back’ Panama Canal • FRANCE 24 English

President Donald Trump on Monday cast himself as a peacemaker in his second inaugural address, but immediately vowed that the United States would be “taking back” the Panama Canal. Trump issued the threat, without explaining details, after weeks of refusing to rule out military action against Panama over the waterway, which the United States handed over at the end of 1999. FRANCE 24’s Kethevane Gorjestani tells us more.

  1. I don't think the Panama Canal is operated by China, which is a very bad excuse. I think his expansionism will only bring destruction and war death.

  2. im a us cotizen living in panama…the government is not properly distributing the funds from the canal back to the people or at least the appearance thereos, there is usually 160 ships waiting to get in but only 25-26 big ships are waiting daily end up going through. if you want to jump the line a company has to pay $1 mil to the canal authority to do so…i wonder what budget that goes in. Maybe the usa can jointly administer the canal.

  3. We legally can’t change in ocean’s name lol so our president was misinformed. We are checking him. He just says things for rhetoric. Don’t take our president Siri.

  4. The Americans built the canal and gave Panama its independence more than 100 years ago. If it weren't for the United States, Panama would still be a poor department of Colombia.

  5. I found this on the intranet: saber-rattling, noun overtly and often exaggeratedly threatening actions or statements (such as verbal threats or ostentatious displays of military power) that are meant to intimidate an enemy by suggesting possible use of force. My guess, Trump we'll be cutting a new deal with Panama, one that China will have no part of.

  6. panama have abused their authority and acted irresponsibly The administration of the canal has to change to more trust-worthy hands , that's the end of this.

  7. Why don't you play the clip of Trump's Panama canal comments in it's entirety! Oh, so you can just talk sh-t?
If Big Daddy says it's the Gulf of America, it's the Gulf of America! Don't be mad! Lolololl😂hahaha

  8. US, this time via Trump, manufactures lies to justify its ill-foreign policy, imperialism, expansionism, and exploitation of weaker countries. Trump concocts lie that Chinese soldiers illegally operate Panama Canal. Isn't it "funny" that everything US does is "because of China. . . China . . . China . . ."
