As i’ve said in another post, yes they’ve increased their coal power production by 2% from 2023 to 2024, but:
– their total electricity consumption has increased by almost 6%
– their construction sector is still shrinking, as well as emissions from it. Total energy consumptions is also probably growing slower than their electricity consumption, given they’re electrifying fast.
I predict 2024 emissions are still gonna be below the 2023 ones. If not, we’re talking fractions of a percent here. As long as China grow by 5% or more in electricity consumption each year, emissions won’t go down quickly. I’d expect emissions to basically stay flat for 3-4 years before we see a rapid downturn at the end of the decade, with the exponential grow in solar finally overpowering the increase in energy demands and energy demand not accellerating as much with the decreasing and ageing population.
