  1. If Canada were to become a state its citizens would likely vote Democrat, which would be enough to tip the balance of power in our tightly contested elections. So no, I don’t think Republicans would allow this.

  2. During a briefing in North Carolina, President Donald Trump suggested that Canadians would benefit from “much better” health coverage if Canada became the 51st U.S. state, claiming it would lead to significant tax cuts for Canadians. He argued that statehood would eliminate tariffs, allowing for easier business transactions between the two countries. Trump has been critical of the U.S.-Canada trade relationship, asserting that the U.S. does not need Canadian products, despite the substantial trade volume that supports millions of jobs. He emphasized the differences in health care systems, noting that Canada has a publicly funded Medicare system while the U.S. relies on private insurance. In 2023, the average American spent approximately $5,300 on health care, highlighting the contrasting approaches to health coverage in the two countries.

  3. What is better than “free” in regards to healthcare?

  4. No he means that HE would have better coverage in Canada if it were a state because HE would pay for better coverage than public care.

He has no concept of coverage for average americans

  5. We gotta stop making articles on everything this loon says. He’s a soundbite merchant.

  6. Aaaand he might have just set a new bar for himself and stupid statements.

  7. Trump genuinely cannot stop with this stupid rhetoric. The only comfort of it all is the thought of Republicans who care about FP being embarrassed to death having to support such a leader.

  8. People here have no idea what “universal healthcare” is like in Canada.

It’s really simple concept. Healthcare resources are limited. They cannot be distributed “to each according to his need,” period. If you want to create a system that *nominally* distributes to each according to his need, in reality, you add friction to the system. In other words, you limit the supply and make people ration it.

[https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/london/family-doctor-walkerton-hundreds-line-up-1.7431902](https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/london/family-doctor-walkerton-hundreds-line-up-1.7431902) Look at thousands of Canadians lining up in the snow for a new family doctor in this little town. 2.5 million in Canada don’t have a family doctor. That’s 6% of their population, for a country who claims to have “universal healthcare.”

This is only a rationing at the family doctor level, they ration it every single step on the way. Another example: Canada has 10.8 MRI units per million people. That’s a quarter of the number in America. How do they manage it? They ration it.

They simply don’t have a functional healthcare system.

  9. Sure buddy, no health insurance is way better than universal health care suuuuure

  10. What an ignorant statement. Four more years of this nonsense from his pie hole.

  11. Can we stop reporting every stupid ass thing he says

  12. He has claimed throughout his campaigns that he was going to make the Affordable Care Act better. He has NEVER delivered anything on that stated improvement and has carefully rolled back initiatives started under Biden which MIGHT make things better simply to make sure Biden won’t get credit. Bring the US more than a “concept of a plan” before running your mouth about fixing Canada’s healthcare. Trump 2025, the lies and tantrums continue.

  13. What is wrong with this lunatic? Does he actually think he can convince developed countries to voluntarily become part of one of the most dystopian, corporatist hellholes on earth? Why would anyone agree to that?

  14. I don’t think it is possible to be any more dumb than trump.

  15. Canadian healthcare might be terrible, but compared to America it’s the greatest system in the world.
