AUSTIN, Texas — Austin Public health is urging residents to get vaccinated for Measles, following confirmed cases in Texas.

Houston recently confirmed two measles cases, with the first being reported in 2023.

“Measles is a highly contagious disease that can lead to severe complications, especially for individuals who are unvaccinated or at higher risk of disease,” Austin Public Health said in a press release.

Austin Public Health is urging locals to take proactive measures for themselves and their families.

“Vaccination is our best defense against measles and other preventable diseases,” said Austin-Travis County Health Authority Dr. Desmar Walkes. “By staying up to date on vaccinations, we not only protect ourselves but also the most vulnerable members of our community.”
