Paul Biya is the world’s oldest leader and one of its longest serving presidents as he’s held the post for 42 years. He’s still not formally declared his candidacy for October’s polls but some religious leaders have spoken up saying that an 8th term would be against the country’s interests. FRANCE 24’s correspondent Indira Ayuk has more.

  1. 91 years old, 8th Term. OK, I get it, he will live until 150years. Carry on Mr Paul Biya, your ancestor are behind you, and hang on will he eventually abdicate his throne or cede power to his Son after another term?

  2. It’s a country where you need the protection of the Vatican to give your opinion of the president. The reason why Bishops are some of the few people to speak up is because the Pope would bail them out if something happened to them. Politicians know the risk they would be taking by saying that the president shouldn’t run again after 45 years in power. A corruption scandal about them would pop out the next day followed by jail or they would just disappear.

  3. 🇨🇲Yes after 43years of Miss governance and great poverty Paul biya has to retire in peace not with War like in Anglophone area.
