I’m planning to buy a car in Belgium and take it to Finland when I move there in 3 years.

I’m trying to choose between these hybrids equally equipped: Honda HR-V (advance style) and Toyota Corolla Cross (Premium 2WD).
The Honda appeals to me, and it is 5,6k cheaper.

But Honda cars sales in Finland seem few and decreasing (https://www.statista.com/statistics/416594/honda-car-sales-in-finland/).

So I wonder if Honda is not popular there (even though has similar quality to Toyota), and if retains good resale value in case I only stay few years in the country.

What’s your opinion?

  1. don’t buy a hybrid, you get the problems of an electric car and a petrol car. Buy either full electricity or gasoline.

  2. Honda has closed their office in Finland and outsourced its import operations to a third party, just like Nissan is going to do.

Due to this, and several other factors, Honda has become an obscure car brand in Finland.

  3. I switched to Hybrid Toyota (7 years old) 3 years ago. This car is unbreakable. Import cars are slightly cheaper than local ones.

  4. Wouldn’t drive either of those wacky wheels. Buy BMW or Mercedes

  5. Regardless of the make and model please research our tax laws. You might not want to buy a new car and then import it and pay a huge amount of taxes for it.

  6. Get Toyota for best resale value. Its boring and not very nice as a car compared to premium brands but its the most overvalued car brand in Finland so it will keep its value very well.

  7. Finns have a hard-on for Toyotas. You will have easier time getting rid of it here in the future if that’s your plan. Hondas are not that common although they are also well regarded here. Don’t listen to the stupid comments about hybrids.

  8. You will get 1997 Toyota Corolla. No counter arguments accepted.

  9. Toyata is the market leader. resale value is great as well as maintainence.

  10. Honda e:HEV is awesome. There is a presentation of this system at YouTube and how it works. Can’t find it while on cell connection. You won’t find many on Finnish roads though. C-RV, H-RV and Civics post 2022 models are a rare sight.

But yeah, Toyota is king in Finland among hybrids. You may see how many Toyotas are sold per year in aut.fi site. Their network is pretty strong in Finland. Their sound insulation is not exactly good for their asking price though, or it was just me bring pedantic.

Other option is Mazda. They’ve improved quite a deal and in bed with Toyota.
