The songwriting team behind Theo Evan’s entry for Cyprus at the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 has been revealed.

Cypriot broadcasters RIK and CyBC announced in a joint Instagram post that the song will be penned by Dimitris Kontopoulos, Lasse Nymann, Linda Dale and Elsie Bay.

The writing team behind the entry, then, has real pedigree – all four writers and producers have had previous involvement with the contest to some extent.

Dimitris Kontopoulos is a Greek composer whose songs have been performed at Eurovision since 2007. While he has never won the contest as a writer, he has come close on several occasions. “Shady Lady” by Ani Lorak for Ukraine in 2008 and “Hold Me” by Farid Mammadov for Azerbaijan in 2013 both finished as runners-up in their respective years.

Lasse Nymann is a Norwegian producer who made a splash as producer of Swiss entry “The Code” in 2024. The song, performed by Nemo, went onto win Eurovision 2024 for Switzerland, leading to this year’s contest being held in Basel. With the eclectic production of “The Code”, Cyprus may be looking to make a similar impact in Switzerland.

Linda Dale was also one of the songwriters involved with “The Code”, meaning there are two defending champions within Cyprus’s songwriting team. Dale has also been involved in other songs that have competed in national finals. As recently as Saturday night, Dale was involved in the team behind “Je danse” by Luzac in the Luxembourg Song Contest.

And finally, Elsie Bay has been trying to get to Eurovision for years both as an artist and as a songwriter. She has competed in Norway’s Melodi Grand Prix in 2022 and 2023 as a performer, and been involved in eight national final entries across Europe without success. Theo Evan’s entry for Cyprus in 2025 will mark Bay’s debut as a writer at the contest.

RIK says in their Instagram post that more information about the song and the entry will be released at a later date. Speaking about the song in an interview with Super Katerina last week, though, Evan provided some details about what his song will sound like:

The song is dark, dance and a little playful. The composers are great, they’re both from Greece and abroad.

Theo’s song for the 69th Eurovision Song Contest was recorded in Athens, Greece in November. Traditionally, Cyprus has revealed its entry in mid to late February.

Silia Kapsis represented Cyprus at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 in Malmö, Sweden, with the song “Liar”. She qualified for the Grand Final and placed 15th, scoring 78 points.

Cyprus debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1981. Their best result was in 2018, with Eleni Foureira who performed the song “Fuego” which came in second place with 436 points. Before 2018, their best results in the contest came in the form of three fifth-place finishes. In 2004, Lisa Andreas performed “Stronger Every Minute” in Istanbul, Turkey. She finished 5th in the final scoring 170 points, which included 12 points from Greece. They also placed fifth in 1997 with Hara & Andreas Constantinou and their song “Mana mou”, and in 1982 with Anna Vissi’s “Mono i agapi.”
