I'm still not entirely sure what a French taco is, or why it's called a taco, it's quite different to Mexican tacos. I've seen at least two places dedicated to them in recent months, there's another one near Mile End station.

This was a grilled wrap, filled with merguez (a spiced sausage you get in Maghrebi cuisine – all the merguez I've had before were from Algerian places), lots of melted cheese, fries and Algerian sauce (its a mayo and chilli sauce mix with other tasty things).

Not gonna lie, this was top tier hangover food which is exactly what was required today.

It was served with more fries and I had a mango Rubicon to try to help it all down.

This was from French Tacos House, Stratford Shopping Centre (not Westfield).

A while back the shopping centre opened a small new section called "5 Continents" – it must have replaced a mid-sized shop but I can't recall what was there before. In any case, it has a bunch of places that have franchise.vibes, and they seem to have a keen eye on food delivery (Uber Eats, JustEat, etc), but actually most of the places are quite decent. This is where the French Tacos House is.

Here's the Google maps listing if you ever need carbs and cheese to help you a rough morning after a great night

  1. 5 continents is great and I’m glad that I live far away else I’d be even fatter. The guys in the French taco place are very friendly.

  2. tried french tacos in switzerland a bit back and they were delicious! was surprised a few months ago when the “french taco” shops started popping up on my deliveroo, must be picking up in london. (although like you it’s still a mystery to me why this is called a taco…if anything its more burrito like, but with none of the fillings holding a semblance to mexican food)

  3. Was this in the food court in the Stratford centre? I was given a sample of a French taco there yesterday 😀 (Edited – I can see in your description it was)

  4. Seemingly, it’s called a tacos because that’s what the kebab shop owners in Rhone-Alpes who first sold them in the 00s decided to call them.

  5. There is one just up the road from Lea BRidge station that is decent. 1st french taco place Ive been to though.

  6. I was literally at 5 Continents yesterday and only now I find out they have merguez tacos???

Time to find an excuse to get back to Stratford then
