  1. been a thing for like 50 years ever since they first was made. just cheaper for them to recycle it this way to make them

  2. Thank god for the 4th image. I got to the third and was like “bullshit”. But the 4th? The 4th clenched it.

  3. The cheaper ones always had these, the thicker ones from the 80’s/90’s with vibrant coloured fabric coverings used to be metal covered in some sort of silicon or rubber like material so if the fabric split it didn’t draw blood as you whipped it on.

  4. To be fair I only discovered this a couple years ago but then it’s not something I’d have had growing up and our daughter is 6 now. Until we had a child I’d never heard of slap bracelets at all, then soon discovered they were made of old tape measures when they started falling to bits.

  5. I wonder how long this tape was before it was cut down?
And how much one would cost.

  6. Am I the only one who’s never heard of a slap bracelet and assumed it was a typo?

Having now watched them being ‘deployed’, I want one.

Especially if it were practical and could act as a pass or watch strap.

  7. I feel a bit sad at you missing out on this fundamental part of childhood.
And also wondering what I’ve missed out on that you know!

  8. Was this not posted previously? I’ve seen these images before…

  9. People acting so nonchalant but I am 41 yo and have never heard of this. My mind is sufficiently blown

  10. That’s exactly how they’re made, I’ve had 3 or 4 like this

  11. I can’t wait for the day I get to post it, I can’t be far off

  12. I found this out as an adult too, from one of those daytime shows about crappy/knock off consumer goods.  I had loads of slap bands as a kid, just never had one break so I didn’t know what was in them.  🙂

  13. This exact thing happened to my sons snap bracelet a few weeks ago

  14. I love how every half a year or so someone will discover this and post it on one of the various subs I inhabit.

  15. Why do I remember that in the UK in the 90s there was a rumour/warning going around about these being able to slash you? Obviously didn’t stop them being banned as they’re still abundant today.

  16. I didn’t know. Judging from the comments, I might be the only person on the planet who didn’t, and I’m an 80s kid with a 6-year-old, so there’s no excuse, but I didn’t know. Hope that makes you feel better, OP.

  17. Good to see the daily Reddit post of ‘snap bracelets made from measuring tapes reveal’ arriving at r/CasualUK
