There was a scandalous episode, but more on that later.
No one except France, Norway and Sweden claimed victory in this race – this became clear after the first part of race. And by the middle of the race, only Italy and Switzerland were losing less than a minute to the leaders, but they also eventually fell behind by more than two minutes. The German team competed today without Preuss and Grotian.
The fate of the race was decided in the last few hundred meters. Hanna Oberg, not for the first time, tried to attack where she shouldn’t, ran over a ski and hit Ingrid Tandrevold with her pole, causing the Norwegian to fall right onto the snow.
The Swede rolled off to the finish line, Ingrid also recovered quite quickly, but Julie Simon didn’t think she would be given any chance, and simply ran her lap, resigned to 3rd place.
Don’t remember anyone ever being punished for “eliminating” rivals, perhaps the IBU should change the rules and look into such episodes in detail.
Switzerland, Italy and Ukraine are in the top 6.
