It’s funny how petrol seems to be the only item that anyone buys where we’re constantly talking about “record highs”.
If inflation is almost always above zero (and sometimes hits figures like 5% or the 7% or so we’re expecting later this year), won’t most things be at record highs? Beer is at a record high. Milk is at a record high. Stamps are at a record high. Plumbing services are at a record high.
If there are items which are *falling* in nominal terms then they’re the exception which the story should be written about. If mobile phones and TVs cost less than they did one, three and five years ago then that’s a bit more interesting than an article which mentions the fact that Freddos have gone up in price to a record high in nominal terms.
156.9 at the local one for petrol. Bought my car almost exactly a year ago. First full tank cost £45. Last time I filled up a few weeks ago £52. Can’t imagine what it will be come payday.
My local Tesco has gone up from 147.9 to 156.9 for unleaded petrol in the space of 4 days. I fully expect it to hit £1.70+ in the next week or so.
brought the motorbike out early just because its cheaper on fuel lol, fooking cold in the mornings though lmao
I go home for lunch and it went up by 5p at Tesco in the space of under an hour; it went up 5p over the whole of last week. It’s ridiculous and it just means further energy price rises on top of what we are already expecting.
Part of me feels maybe it should be more. We are destroying the environment because it is more convenient than not destroying it. But so far we just keep passing it off as the next generations problem.
