Holy shit that sounds miserable. Good on you for never giving up.
Holy fuck, I knew there were housing issues in NZ, but didn’t realise the job market was this much of a struggle? What field is this in?
My days, what field do you work in?
thats crazy, espescially the cumulated time for all the applications.
Im from Germany and the job market becomes rapidly worse in the last years, but this seems on another level.
Hope you are happy with your accepted job 🙏🏻
Jesus Christ that’s infuriating
How did you keep your motivation high?
That Applications to Interviews ratio is bonkers.
Am I the only one who is confused by these posts?
(2507 / 14) / 30 = 5.96.
So you applied for about five to six jobs **a day** solidly for over a year? Logistically I just don’t see how that’s feasible, at least not effectively (i.e. making targetted, high-quality applications). Whenever I’ve applied for a job it’s taken me days or even a week or more to put the application together.
Even if it is logistically feasible, to have that low a success rate for at least getting an interview surely you’re either going about it completely the wrong way (e.g. your resume/CV is terrible vs what it could be) or you’re applying for the jobs that require qualifications and/or experience you just don’t have?
I’m not clear what the “social” goal of the figure is either? Is it a criticism of the job market or some kind of flex I’m missing? Or just a factual representation of your job search?
Edit: seems I’m being naive and this is reality for a lot of you when searching. I also didn’t mean to sound harsh about my assumptions about OP and their search but probably did. I wish OP all the best with their job and any future searches.
I can understand your situation. Because I’m in the same one.
2yrs of applying, 2k applications, with 2 degrees, and about 2yrs of experience.
Result: We regret to inform…
Is that for a remote job? Or did you really apply for every single company in a 100mile radius? 😅
Are you a felon? What job out of 2k did you get?
Woww! That really paints a picture. Good on you for finally landing a job. I’m sort of in the same boat. It’s been more than a year of job hunting. Haven’t kept count, but I’ve applied to at least 500 jobs—maybe even more.
It’s incredibly frustrating especially when it gets to the interview stage. You get hopeful, thinking the struggle might finally be over. But when they ghost you or reject you, it all comes crashing down again. It’s such a blow to your motivation, and the next day, it’s hard to even open the laptop and get back to applying.
I’m really happy for you for finally finding something 👏🏻
Whats the difference between no answer and ghosted? Aint it the same?
Congrats OP, can’t even imagine the struggle till you got it
Who should Luigi shoot about this?
Sometimes it’s best to get a recruitment agency to do this ground work
I had a similar thing going these last 9 months. Didn’t apply to nearly as many jobs but it only amounted to one interview in the last 9 months.
The job I have now I got the same day I applied for it, applied in the morning, got called in in the afternoon. Wild experience after 9 months of searching.
And i am sitting hear with a nice job after exactly one nice phone call with some headhunter agency + 3 phone interviews after that. It took me 2 hours all together.
I’m in software engineering with an average degree from some public university and had 3 years of experience back then.
That’s about 5- 6 CVs a day. With cover letters. That’s a lot of work to tailor a CV and cover letter to suit each role.
So I assume you didn’t do that and likely just spammed out the same one for each?
That could be why the ratios are so poor.
How do people survive for so long without a job?
Holy f*** that ratio. I’m speechless. You never gave up, congrats.
