He continued that “the secretary and foreign minister Tajani discussed the importance of a real burden sharing among all NATO allies”, speaking to reporters on Sunday, January 26.

“They also talked about ways to further the US-Italy partnership through close collaboration on shared priorities around the world”, the spokesperson added.
Tajani gave statement on X
Speaking on platform X, Tajani insisted that he had a “first, long and friendly conversation with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.”
The deputy minister said that “relations with the US are – together with Europe – the priority of our foreign policy.”
Touching on the phone call between himself and Rubio, he said there had been “full strategic convergence on peace and reconstruction in Ukraine and in Gaza. We want to work together in Africa, Latin America and the Pacific to boost the west’s unity,” stressed Tajani on the social media site.
Regarding the intertwinement of the two nations, Tajani and rubio confirmed that the “relationship of trust” and the commitment to “intensifying” commercial relations are there, according to the deputy minister.
Italy and US: A prominent collaborative force
Italy and the US are already in close collaboration in multiple sectors, including the aerospace industry, as well as the maritime sector.
Giorgia Meloni, Italy’s prime minister, is very fond of the new president of the States, and she met with Donald Trump a couple of weeks ago at his luxury Florida resort, Mar-a-Lago, to discuss a wide range of critical world topics, and cement plans for further collaboration as Trump begins his second presidential term.
Meloni heads a nation that is governed by far-right policies and philosophies, and her nationalistic approach for Italy is matched by a similar stance from across the pond. Trump and his compatriots, notably Elon Musk, have been publicised of late for their unwavering support of the opposing German party Alternative for Germany AfD, that aims to mount a real challenge to the leading governing group in the country.
