“A team of National Armed Forces Navy divers has gone to the site of the cable damage in the Swedish exclusive economic zone to conduct an inspection and collect evidence. The National Armed Forces will be supported by a Swedish Coast Guard vessel,” said a statement from the NBS.
The Swedish Coast Guard has detained the ship “Vezhen” and Swedish police have also joined the investigation Monday. The detained ship is currently in the Swedish port city of Karlskrona.
It was previously reported that on January 26, the Latvian Navy received information from the Latvian State Radio and Television Center about damage to the optical cable. A patrol ship was immediately assigned to survey the possible vessels involved.
The Maritime Operations Center has conducted an analysis of vessel movements in the area of the damage, and the investigation of the circumstances is currently ongoing, with constant information exchange with NATO allies, including Sweden, said the NBS.
