> Selena Gomez posted – and then deleted – a video of her sobbing over the mass deportations that have taken place in President Donald Trump’s first week back in office as part of his crackdown on illegal immigration.
> “I’m sorry,” the “Emilia Perez” star said in a caption on a video she uploaded to social media Monday. A Mexican flag emoji appeared on the screen, as Gomez is of Mexican and Italian descent.
> “All my people are getting attacked, the children. I don’t understand,” Gomez continue. “I’m so sorry, I wish I could do something but I can’t. I don’t know what to do. I’ll try everything, I promise.”
> She then took to social media again with a second message on her Instagram stories, saying, “Apparently it’s not OK to show empathy for people.”
The hate isn’t fully justified?, she’s allowed to be sad…but a nice donation to somewhere that will support those people would be super handy.
She seems like such a good kid.
What an incredibly manipulative way to rephrase criticism by saying ‘it’s not okay to show empathy’.
Gosh Selena, I wonder it’s frustrating and distracting when a celebrity of your influence, wealth and calibre posts a video of them crying and saying they can’t do anything. I wonder what message that sends? I wonder how that makes people who have to literally leave everything they’ve ever worked for, their livelihoods and dreams behind?
Oh boohoo it sucks that people were annoyed at for your crying and not giving you a medal.
From the river to the sea.
I hope every motherfucker involved in this gets exactly what they deserve.
Remember the golden rule; whoever has the gold makes the rule. She’s a billionaire. The girl needs to start flexing
With the amount of influence she has off the top of my head oh I don’t know,
Speak up on what’s going on, make a YouTube vid on the atrocities of the deportations/ who it affects/ how this country runs on immigrant blood. have a ep of a podcast or something with someone who’s knowledgeable on the subject, maybe start reading some leftist literature, donate money to non profits, spread posts that detail when ICE is in the area.
…nah can’t do anything.
She should open her purse!
Should have made video explaining in coherent terms how and why she opposes this.
Crying on video like that looks like someone trying to just “cash” in on a hot topic.
Celebrities don’t have a responsibility in my mind to speak out, but if they do they should try to act in a way that garners a cerebral response. Not an emotional one.
So did she delete bc of backlash, management advice, or did the post get Zucchini’d?
Oh, I’m sure her billions will do wonders for those tears.
To think, people once roasted Selena Gomez for being of Mexican descent and not speaking any Spanish. Now she cries for her people. Everything has come full circle.
Your people? she was born and raised in the USA with English as a first language and named in honor of a singer also born and raised in USA with English as her first language, she is as Mexican as a hard-shelled Taco
Sorry if I sounded angry but it seems like she is trying to spin it into herself when is not about herself
And recording yourself being sad , ain’t gonna do anything
I really like Selena, I don’t believe her tears are contrived & I know she does donates generously to charities.
The issue I have, she said ‘she’s do anything to help.’ Then help, right now. This woman has the resources to mobilize + pay thousands of immigration lawyers. Literally, she’s outrageously wealthy–is she willing to lose her gold to help her people? Because I don’t want to hear about it otherwise.
What was she doing during the election season?
What annoys me isn’t that she’s crying on camera to clicks and views. It bothers me that she’s says “My People”. You can say “My People” if you don’t speak the same language, you can’t say “My People” when you don’t connect with the people that are being persecuted, and more importantly when she has NEVER really faced the issues “MY PEOPLE” are going through.
She’s an out of touch celebrity trying to be one of US now because it’s trending, not because she cares. I really wish she would actively try to connect with the Hispanic/Latino communities. If we’re your people go to the fields and show what they go through. Use your platform to share peoples stories that are suffering. I don’t expect you to go out and pick apples or oranges, (I’ve done it’s hard work), but I would genuinely want her to use her power to help balance the scales instead of crying on video. That would pile get me to support her more than this nonsense.
*All* her people are here illegally. She doesn’t have one legal migrant?
She’s a billionaire. Put your money where your mouth is.
Elections have consequences. I’m sorry, but Latin people in this country fucked up. Hopefully they learn, but I bet they won’t.
Posting a video of you crying is wierd.
Two Hispanic waitresses pick up at Olive Garden during rush.
They are snatching people
Is she crying for the people that were murdered by illegal aliens?
Recording and posting a video of yourself crying will always be weird as fuck. Bring back self awareness, shame, etc. there are ways of speaking out without making it all about yourself.
All your people are illegal criminals? Cuz that’s who’s getting deported.
Damn y’all leave her alone already. There’s other things you can focus your hate and frustrations on
These celebrities do anything for views these days. smh.
I feel this grief.
I hope she uses her platform to….encourage people to leave IG and FB and find a ways to mobilize her audience. I am just not confident her voice is the one people will go to for help since expectation is to entertain and market products.
Regardless, a lot of people are scared right now and feel helpless. Seeing someone feel this out loud can be helpful to not feel alone. The most outraged will always comment. I do wish she had more on what she thinks people can do to help. It’s always awkward seeing someone filming themselves crying and not explaining why it’s being shared (it is a choice). Even if the reason is to help others feeling the same way and process some thoughts around those feelings as a community.
Is she here illegally? Last I checked the Mexican immigrants who have papers are allowed to stay…
I will never believe fully in someone who records themselves like this. Fine if it’s a heat of the moment thing and maybe someone else caught you like this, but this was a choice to record themselves crying. I would at least stop first so I could get my words out properly. It screams disingenuous
Bad bad timming, Mexico is having a big ick against the whole Emilia Perez cast due to their white knighting and tone deaf representation of the country. Difficult to make this look genuine to the public. I get her, but still it will have the opposite effect as the latino community wont be fully supporting her right now.
Have any children been deported? I haven’t seen anything about that. Or are people still upset about the Chicago story where the school claimed ICE came that was proven to be false (yet not corrected anywhere on this website)
It’s never too late to get yourself reacquainted with your heritage. It’s a way as first or second generation Americans we can begin to heal from the generational wounds and long term impacts of colonialism.
It was blasted on Fox News 🙃
Some of y’all white people in the comments don’t get it. Families are being torn apart. Selena made a documentary in the day highlighting the stories of the undocumented community.
As a Latino, I stand with Selena. A lot of white folks are alienated from immigration issues, but for many Latinos, our communities and relatives are intertwined in the situation. Shaming her while being someone who has done a lot for the community or reducing her crying as performative is fucked up.
Leave Selena alone and kick rocks!!
Can someone explain to me why expressing feelings in America is seen as bad? Is there a tough guy macho persona that needs to be upheld culturally?
She can definitely do more for her people than cry into a camera. Use your power, money and voice girl.
Yeah they better stay away from the natural born children as they are citizens, but under the Trump administration they will no longer be considered “anchor babies” if you get my drift, their citizenship has NO legal correlation to their parents, unfortunately. We need to vote to change the citizenship process to prevent this in the future, other than we are absolutely powerless to prevent him from expelling non citizens from our country. While my heart hurts for the broken citizens I vote every 4 years more so against republicans than with democrats, my vote is definitely spurred from hate towards the enemy than support for my fellow American as many votes are. That being said outside of one vote every 4 years every American is on their own hope the best.
I’m no fan of Trump’s deportation campaign, but can we just like… not please. Moments like this should be had in private. Is nothing sacred anymore. I can’t imagine being so upset by something I’m sobbing and the first thing I want to do is take my phone out so I can upload a video of myself crying to the internet.
They need to obey the law
Isn’t it only criminals such as gang members and people who’ve committed violent crimes etc?
