  8. This was pretty much confirmed leading up to the Inauguration and absolutely confirmed when Trump slandered Canada at the World Economic Forum (i.e. a place where straight up lies on numbers are going to be scrutinized)

    This will be bad for everyone in North America, but after the initial price jump & tumult we’ll likely see relatively quick concessions and renegotiations, America declaring victory, and then a steady price increase for the average consumer to slowly compensate for the new realities.

    Internationally, the fact that Trump is reneging on deals *he made* back during his first term is already making waves, with different governments (Mexico, Canada, and EU included) noting that “deals with the US are not trustworthy”, so you’re definitely going to be seeing a lot of trade/alliance shifts resulting from this nonsense.

    America alienating the two countries they’re surrounded by is going to hurt America long-term, and we’ve already seen Trump starting to go back and forth when he’s realizing other countries are jumping into whatever roles the US leaves as well as Canada/Mexico starting to refuse new US orders until the US figures out what it’s doing.

    One more week then we’ll see what Trump goes for. Tariffing everything is going to **BITE** the US hard.

    IMO many of these ideas (Greenland, Panama, tariffs for Canada & Mexico) did not originate with Trump. (He’s certainly not stable or a genius). Someone or some group even more greedy than Trump whispers in his ear. Trump has a greedy ego that will never be satisfied and he has to lie and make up stuff to compensate. He’s surround himself with the people who will agree with him.

    The big problem is his vast Republican support; most levels of the courts; and subversive groups like Proud Boys.

  24. We are heading towards a “war on many fronts” type of scenario. I know the Columbia situation has been resolved but he was days away from trade wards with 3 countries at once. Ya, US is a huge economy but they can’t battle everyone at once and win. I don’t really care, they can go fuck themselves for what they have done to the world and as a Canadian, Trump can doubly go fuck himself.

  29. So, he went back on a trade deal in his first term that was already made with CAN and MEX, and then made a worse deal. And now he is saying his own deal was a terrible deal, so he wants to fuck up the economy to show them?

  31. Hey let’s ruin a trading block that has been working for us for decades thanks to NAFTA and now the USMCA that Trump himself ratified.

    Yeah let’s weaken the whole North American trading block vis a vis Asia and Europe because (waves arms arouns) to impoverish the American people so corporations can ruin them and buy up their assets and strengthen control to suppress wages. That’s a great way to ruin an economy.

    And fuck all the magas who are blissfully blind to it and support these inane policies that will ultimately only hurt the American people like how Trump ruined the soybean industry in America during his first term by enacting exactly this sort of tariff driven trade policy. So this isn’t even the first time we’re doing a ruinous bad policy that will fuck us for decades or permanently for some sectors.
