If flush toilets had already been invented and widely-used by the 1500s, we’d almost definitely have period paintings since that era depicting the “oppressed” and “misunderstood” minions of Ivan the Terrible and his successors looting their way through their new but ill-gotten gains in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, Caucasus and Central Asia.
Translation of the captions in Polish and German:

Not just that, according to my grandmother (R.I.P.) they stole water faucets, toilets, and sinks when they were on their way to and from Germany (she was a young girl at the end of WWII)
It’s more than 100 years, and most of russia seems to still be without this “modern technology”.
Towards the end of WW2 when Russian/Soviet soldiers entered eastern Germany many of them mistook the chamber pots they looted for kitchenware (even industrial countries did not yet have sewage systems everywhere).
Ruzzian glory scavengers…the shame of humanity.
