Ukraine destroys 5% of Russia’s total refinery capacity in only two nights of strikes

  1. So what we need to do is give Ukraine 40 nights and they’ll destroy all of it!

    (I wish.)

  2. This is good news. The Ukrainians need to conduct successful operation now to convince the new American administration to keep things coming. Trump may have ulterior motives, but he has taken on the rare act of criticizing Putin for the first time in the last few weeks and that gives me hope. If Ukraine can successfully crack Russia’s thin facade of strength, Trump may turn on them rather than associate with such weakness. This refinery strike is a job well done, but a critical strike on a target once thought invulnerable in Russia would be symbolically important for strengthening Ukraine’s claims during the ongoing negotiations. Perhaps a raid on the bases where the North Koreans are organized or a strike at high tech manufactories beyond the Urals would be just what they need.

  3. Keep this momentum up and the pressure might increase on Russia.

Ukraine has the ability to escalate very easily if it doesn’t have reliable partners.

  4. That’s great news. Still seems early to tell if Ukraine will continue to get the support it needs.

  5. This is how I think they’ll be able to at least eventually negotiate a deal that leaves them on equal ground if they manage to keep it up.

  6. I know it’s not likely that the outcome will be anything but Russia keeping the territory it’s taken, especially with the cheetoh in charge of the US, but it’s at least a tiny bit comforting to know that Ukraine has put up the fight it has (at a horrible cost, I know). I relish all these articles highlighting little Ukrainian victories.

  7. “Ukraine destroys 5% of Russia’s total refinery capacity…”

    Hey, that’s not that m…

    “…in only two nights”

    Ooooooh. Oh.

  8. It seems plausible that if Ukraine significantly degrades the refineries and storage depots that they can reach, then Russia will have to expend more trains and trucks and pipeline time to keep fueling the war effort. Put briefly, they will have to ship from much longer distances. That logistical challenge and cost alone is worth the huge effort by Ukraine to destroy the nearby facilities.
