It’s the Donald Trump effect?
I don’t know even know what the fuck Emilia Perez is, and at this point I’m too afraid to ask.
Pandering at its finest
This is the largest and least interesting movie news story in a long time.
Crash was awful; Brokeback Mountain not winning was laughable.
I heard things, but I did not *want* to dislike this movie…
Honestly, I think sometimes the social media circlejerk can make people have confirmation bias towards certain movies. Every year there are some movies who become the undeserved “whipping boy”.
Anyways, this movie is an absolute trainwreck, IMO. It feels like it is not getting across the message it thinks it is.
Anyways, honestly cannot fathom how it got so many Oscar nominations.
The problem is that it’s just not a good movie, all of the political bullshit aside, it’s not a well written or well crafted film.
Emilia Perez was an “okay” film. The singing is bad. The Spanish is even… Inconsistent. Lyrics are bad.
OK Emilia Perez was a bad film.
The best way I can describe this movie is “inconsistent”. Some parts work really well. Some parts are laughably weak. Zoe is almost a reliable anchor but she is underused in the second half.
The only reason I would watch that stupid movie would be if Satan himself asked me to do it to save my soul from an eternity in hell. And Id still think about it.
I’d say it’s slightly lower rated than Crash. Like it’s at 74% on Rotten Tomatoes to Crash’s 73%, sure, but if you look at the average scores out of 10 the critics have Perez at 6.9/10 to Crash’s 7.2/10.
I’m afraid there’s a line I draw when it comes to socially progressive media, which is enough is enough; this film having a narcos boss who is trans and becomes “better” because women are so much more awesome is so inherently stupid I just can’t
Probably the worst BP nominees top to bottom I’ve ever seen.
This screams Shape of Water all over again lol, just “what?”
It will end up winning for political reasons and not on merit
Cuz it was nominated for the same reasons as Crash. Lololol
I thought the movie was alright. It’s not an Oscar winner but idk why people are claiming this the worst movie ever made.
Now I gotta see Crash. My bet is it’s better
Crash is amazing tho what?
And the Oscars are still going to wonder why their ratings are down.
The Oscars should not be pandering to crowd-pleasers but come on. At least give attention to movies that the general public will see. This will be as obscure as 2011 (The Artist) and 2021 (Coda) winning Best Picture.
It sounds like a movie a certain type of white people would love to give awards to for all the wrong reasons
I just watched this last night. I liked it!
I think every generation has it’s “Crash” Oscar pandering bullshit film. Emilia Perez is that.
I didn’t even know this was a movie.
Nominated only for political reasons. 🙄
I actually think it’s an okay movie. Not Oscar nomination worthy, but just okay. Selena’s Spanish was indeed awful, they should’ve cast someone else.
Yet it won several critics choice awards in several states.
A movie about a Mexican trans woman is getting undeserved praise and recognition.
This is the most relevant movie in the USA right now.
It’s like an episode of South Park, everything’s coming together for Trump to sign an executive order disqualifying this movie from any awards as part of his anti-DEI campaign, and any physical copies of the movie get sent to Mexico.
Is this about Evita Peron?
For what it is worth, Karla Sofia Gascón has been doing the rounds in Spain pleading for a win only if it’s because people think she deserves it and not because she’s trans. She earned my respect for that. It’s just too easy to opt to cry ‘discrimination’’ when things don’t go your way so it’s nice to see she’d choose fairness over everything else.
Also, it’s supposed to be in Spanish, but any Mexican will tell you that the songs aren’t even written originally in Spanish, and the translation is terrible.
