“nobody is a better example of the cozy ties between Russians and the British establishment than Mr. Lebedev”
Lebedev is going to be on the naughty step now, needs to take care when drinking tea or touching door handles from now on.
> That is why Ukraine is urging its Western partners to secure a no-fly zone over Ukraine. Such a bold scenario would prevent further human suffering, yet it would not automatically lead to direct hostilities between Nato and Russia.
How do you enforce a no fly zone without engaging in direct combat with Russia? Ask very nicely?
Dumb article.
There really only exist two scenarios, one in which we are not in military conflict with Russia, and one in which we are.
The “conflict” scenario could be realised by various routes, one of which would most certainly be an attempt to enforce a no-fly zone.
If we go to conflict with Russia, then either Russia will lose, badly, or they will use nuclear weapons and everyone will lose. Which do you think Putin would choose?
So forget no-fly zones, or sending conventional forces in, openly at least. We either continue on our current path, providing equipment, munitions etc to the cause while we sanction the fuck out of Russia economically….. OR we launch everything we’ve got and try and take out Russia’s nuclear arsenal – we wouldn’t get it all, millions would probably die, but we’d probably get enough to ensure mankind lives on, and we’d certainly have a lot fewer deaths than if we allowed Putin to choose the moment the nukes start flying.
I mean personally, I’d stick with our current approach. But if we ever do decide that the civilian deaths are unacceptable and we MUST do something at any cost – no half-measures please – that simply hands the initiative to Russia.
Should be pointed out the author of this article is the Ukrainian ambassador to the UK.
The proprietor of the newspaper is don of former KGB. Is he doing sone deep sleeper mole shit.
Putin has been very reasonable for many years regarding Ukraine. He has put his point of view forward and sought assurances that Ukraine would stay neutral.
The US and its European allies have been been trying to incorporate Ukraine into the “West” for its own aggressive strategic purposes (i.e. surround Russia with missiles and military installations).
If anyone does not agree with Putin’s legitimate security concerns, then we can just refer back to the Cuban Missile Crisis where USA put a “hard red line” down, and the sanctions where USA starved, suppressed, sabotaged, and stifled Cuba for (roughly) 60 years.
Yes – war is bad. Let’s try to work things out diplomatically. However, the current situation has arisen not because Putin is a “madman”, but because of Western aggression towards Russia
Yeah no let’s not go to war with russia please and thank you
