SS: Denmark has announced a significant investment of approximately $2 billion to enhance its military presence in and around Greenland. The plan was developed in collaboration with the governments of Greenland and the Faroe Islands. The EU military chief had also said it would make sense to deploy European troops to Greenland.
EU’s foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas on Monday said the European Union is “not negotiating” on Greenland following Trump’s claims. But she also seems worried that a tough stance will make Trump abandon security commitments in Europe as a whole.
“We are not negotiating on Greenland. Of course we are supporting our state, Denmark, and its autonomous region, Greenland, but we shouldn’t also go into speculation about what-ifs because this is not the situation right now,” Kallas told reporters after an EU foreign ministers’ meeting.
