    Greenland might be vital in the future, but surely they would rather cooperate with long time partners rather than alienating them?

  9. France is always ready to send troops everywhere. I have yet to see any troops in Ukraine.

    France heavily relied on US logistics for their deployment even in a fellow Mediterranean country like Syria. It’s ridiculous to think their deployment in Greenland would deter US, especially while a madman like Trump is the president. But I guess it would have a symbolic meaning that they stand in solidarity with fellow European nations.

  17. I hope the French stick to their word. In the long run it would be far more beneficial for them to have a presence on Greenland than it ever was in Africa. More than that at this point I’m all for a fully blown EU backed militarization of Greenland – to the point of excluding everyone else. Greenland is Europe, get off our territory. Independent or as a part of Denmark, but a part of Europe and the EU.

    But that is bullshit. The island is protected already by NATO. Noone will be attacking even if there was no US military base.

    What this will result in is a military build up around the US military base. Defences will be pointed at likely American aggression, not at other figments of imagination. Is that what Trump’s genius wanted for the good of Greenland? Hurr durr.
