1. I don’t think a lot of people have taken that thing all that seriously in decades, if they ever truly did. We’re not any closer to some nuclear war scenario today than we were on February 24, 2022.

2. Reminds me of a quote from the film watchmen.

   Doctor Manhattan as you know the Doomsday Clock is a symbolic clock face analogizing humankind’s proximity to extinction, midnight representing the threat of nuclear war. As of now it stands at four minutes to midnight. Would you agree that we are that close to annihilation?

   My father was a watch maker. He abandoned it when Einstein discovered time is relative. I would only agree that a symbolic clock is as nourishing to the intellect as a photograph of oxygen to a drowning man.

3. This wouldve meant something like 40 yrs ago when people still cared, however we live in a time where the president of the US throws up hitler salutes without any repercussions, so nobody cares about this performative act tbh

4. This is nonsense though. There were times during the cold war when nuclear war was much closer to happening. The order to launch nukes has actually happened before, just the people in charge of doing it refused.

   There’s no way we’re closer to nukes being launched than when the orders to do it were actually given during the cold war, or even situations like the Cuba missile crisis.

   This is clickbait.

5. I get 2nd hand embarrassment from the “atomic scientists” that think this stupid clock is at all worth taking seriously. Literally on par with a religious nutcase doing laps of a high street shouting “the end is nigh”
