Everyone here blaming the mother, yes she made a stupid comment, but the father is being prosecuted too. They are both complicit.
I know the mother has been mentioned a few times but it also refers to the “parents” where is the fathers responsibility in all of this and why is he not getting dragged as much as the mother is? He’s equally to blame
Clearly mental health problems are significantly at play for this child. Just shows the lack of mental health awareness is present when the majority of comments here are directed at this ‘shitty’ mother.
I don’t understand why people like this choose to be parents. If you’re going to do something do it properly.

All the things I took for granted growing up. In this case, having parents who gave a shit if I went to school and got a night’s sleep.
I’d suspend judgement on this one. Could be a bad mum in the mix, but the judge calling out CAMHS in the ruling suggests to me that there’s something else going on.
Poor child has to be bored at home too and would have very little social interaction with anyone if both mam and dad go to work all day. In other countries when this becomes a problem family support workers actually step in and are responsible for getting the child up in the morning and to school.

You absolutely would not believe what’s goes on and the levels of “parenting” that’s out there.
It always boils my piss when I read fcukwits giving out about how easy teachers have it. Haven’t a clue.
My lovely patient wife has been assaulted, spat on, separated mother’s fighting at the school doors. Had to chase after a suicidal child who ran out of the school onto a main road after he witnessed his father’s death. Had to call Gardai for a father who was dealing drugs at the school gates to other parents. She regularly has to wait after hours with kids whose parents don’t turn up to collect them.
She has kids who cannot wear their glasses or hearing aids at home because it will bring shame on the family according to Dad.
You need a license to have a dog, but any negligent cunt can fart out a load of kids and drag them up on benefits so they can repeat the cycle when they aren’t in Mountjoy or strung out on gear.
As someone who has worked in this area I think a lot of comments are missing some points:
– Tusla education welfare officers (EWOs) are completely separate from regular social workers. They do not have the power to take children into care and can only make referrals (which they often do).
– Tusla will not bring these parents to court if the child is being badly bullied or has been diagnosed with some sort of disorder that is restricting them from going to school, including depression, anxiety, agoraphobia etc as long as the parents are cooperating with the education welfare officers to deal with the issue. This could be as little as waking their children up in the morning.
– Tusla will offer alternative arrangements such as online lessons, home tutors, free taxis etc.
When it gets to court it is a CRIMINAL matter. 9 times out of 10 judges will hear evidence from EWOs and put the matter back a few months to monitor attendance. If attendance improves then Tusla will adjourn the case indefinitely. If attendance does not improve judges will usually give the parents chance after chance before eventually convicting and fining them. Judges often threaten to send the parents to jail but I’m. It aware of that ever happening.
That’s a sad read.
Meanwhile, ours missed 9 days last year, and the school reminded us if we hit 20 we’d get reported

Why is it so hard in Ireland to:
1) hold selfish wreckless people accountable
2) get people mental health support
Obviously I can’t go into details but I am aware of a case with a female child the same age who is still running around at that time, through the week.
She was out playing on the corridors of the apartment she lives in at 11.50pm recently.
Occasionally she is still up at 1am.
As I understand it she does attend school daily but I’m guessing she’s probably seldom asleep before the am, so it’s on what, 6-7 hours sleep a night, consistently? I think kids that age need about 9-10 hours nightly.
The mother is *ultra* defensive of any criticism and has a temper, perhaps fuelled, you really don’t want to experience. There is apparently no point in trying to speak to her on any issue that arises.
So this isn’t as rare as it should be.
